Strong Wind Warning for the following areas:
Derwent Estuary, Frederick Henry Bay and Norfolk Bay, Storm Bay, Channel, Central Plateau Lakes, South West Lakes, Banks Strait and Franklin Sound, East of Flinders Island, Upper East Coast, Lower East Coast and South East Coast

Warning to Sheep Graziers

for King Island, Furneaux Islands, North West Coast, Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts

Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
King Island, Furneaux Islands, North West Coast, Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and strong westerly winds are expected during Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include the Upper Derwent Valley forecast district and parts of the King Island, Furneaux Islands, North West Coast, Midlands and South East forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

The next warning will be issued by 11:00 am EST Friday.

Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for Western and parts of Upper Derwent Valley, South East and Central Plateau Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:42 am Friday, 19 September 2025.

Damaging winds to develop over southern Tasmania from Friday evening.

Weather Situation
Vigorous west to northwesterly winds may produce damaging winds over southern areas as a low pressure system is forecast to pass south of Tasmania on Friday, with a cold front crossing the state in the evening.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East and Central Plateau
West to northwesterly DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are possible over elevated terrain and coastal parts from early Friday evening, including the Western, Upper Derwent Valley, Central Plateau and South East districts.
DAMAGING WINDS will then shift southwesterly from early Saturday morning before easing below warning thresholds by late Saturday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Strahan and Strathgordon.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AEST Friday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
