Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast and parts of Western, North East and Central Plateau Forecast Districts.
Issued at 4:40 am Thursday, 13 November 2025.
Damaging winds over southern and eastern areas today.
Weather Situation
Vigorous northwesterly flow ahead of an approaching cold front crossing the state today.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast and Central Plateau
For SOUTHERN AREAS: Strong to DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are possible over lower elevations including southern suburbs of HOBART. Over elevated terrain above 1000 metres, DAMAGING WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 110 km/h are likely during Thursday morning. Winds are forecast to ease below warning thresholds by Thursday afternoon.
For NORTHEASTERN AREAS: Strong to DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are likely over elevated terrain, before extending to coastal areas during Thursday morning. Winds are forecast to ease below warning thresholds by late Thursday afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Kingston, Swansea, New Norfolk, Bicheno, Huonville, Geeveston, Dover and Fingal.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AEDT Thursday.
