for Central, North Central and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:15 am Friday, 16 January 2026.

Damaging southeasterly winds have eased

Weather Situation
A trough over NSW is directing strong southeasterly winds over southern and central parts of the state, although winds are no longer expected to be severe.
cancellation of severe weather warning for the following areas:
Central, North Central and West and South Gippsland
This warning is now cancelled.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.

No further warnings will be issued for this event.
