Minor Flood Warning For The Ovens And King Rivers

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT DOCKER ROAD BRIDGE AND LIKELY AT WANGARATTA OVERNIGHT SUNDAY INTO MONDAY
River levels along the Ovens River at Rocky Point peaked early Sunday morning and the main flood peak is approaching Wangaratta which is expected to peak near the minor flood level (11.9 metres) overnight Sunday into Monday.
In the 24 hours to 9:00 am Sunday, rainfall totals up to 5 mm have been recorded in the Ovens and King catchment. No significant rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Sunday.
King River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the King River.
The King River at Docker Rd Bridge is currently at 3.90 metres and steady, with minor flooding.
The King River at Docker Rd Bridge is likely to remain above the minor flood level (3.70 m) Sunday evening.
Ovens River downstream of Rocky Point:
Minor flooding is likely along the Ovens River downstream of Rocky Point.
The Ovens River at Wangaratta is currently at 11.61 metres and rising.
The Ovens River at Wangaratta is likely to peak near the minor flood level (11.90 m) overnight Sunday into Monday.
Flood Safety Advice:
SES advises that all community members should:
Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
Never allow children to play in floodwater,
Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain,
Keep well clear of fallen power lines
Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.}
