Headline:
Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle, category 4, is currently impacting the west Pilbara coast with severe impacts extending to the Gascoyne coast this morning.

Areas Affected:
Warning zone: Mardie to Jurien Bay, including Onslow, Exmouth, Coral Bay, Carnarvon, Denham and Geraldton, and extending inland to Glen Florrie, Murchison and Dalwallinu.

Watch zone: None.

Cancelled zone: None.

Details of Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle 34U at 9:00 am AWST:
Intensity: Category 4, sustained winds near the centre of 175 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 250 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 30 kilometres of 22.4 degrees South 113.6 degrees East, estimated to be 80 kilometres southwest of Exmouth and 270 kilometres north of Carnarvon.
Movement: south southwest at 24 kilometres per hour.
Narelle has started to weaken, but is expected to remain a category 4 system for a few more hours. It is moving south and passing just west of the North West Cape, taking it further away from Exmouth. Severe impacts are expected from the western Pilbara coast to the northern Gascoyne coast this morning, and then extending south to Carnarvon and possibly Denham during today.
On Saturday, Narelle is expected to be weakening as it moves quickly to the south southeast over land, with impacts extending to the Central West and then further inland and south across the South West Land Division. During Saturday the strongest winds are expected to be on the eastern side of the system.

Hazards:
VERY DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS up to 250 km/h are occurring over coastal parts of the North West Cape and are expected to extend south down the west coast to Coral Bay and Cape Cuvier during this morning. Carnarvon could see wind gusts up to 190 km/h this afternoon, and wind gusts up to 180 km/h could extend to Denham late Friday or early Saturday.
DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS in excess of 125 km/h are occurring along the west Pilbara coast between Onslow and Minilya Roadhouse, including Exmouth. DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS in excess of 125 km/h are expected to extend south to Carnarvon and then to Denham during this morning and afternoon, and may extend to Kalbarri and inland parts later today and possibly as far south as Morawa Saturday morning.
GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 120 km/h are occurring in coastal areas between Mardie and Cape Curvier and are possible over adjacent inland areas to Glen Florrie. Gales will extend south to Carnarvon and Denham later this morning and further south to Kalbarri and inland, possibly as far east as Murchison, during today. Gales may extend south to Jurien Bay and inland to Dalwallinu during Saturday morning.
A Severe Weather Warning is also current for damaging to locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall across much of southwest WA east of Perth and northeast of Albany.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible over western parts of the Pilbara, Gascoyne and Central West as Narelle moves past. Areas of INTENSE RAINFALL that may lead to SEVERE FLASH FLOODING are likely to develop about the western Pilbara west of about Onslow this morning, before extending further south into the northwestern Gascoyne later this morning.
Coastal residents between Onslow and Denham are specifically warned of a VERY DANGEROUS STORM TIDE as the cyclone moves south down the Gascoyne coast. Tides will rise significantly above the normal high tide, with DAMAGING WAVES and VERY DANGEROUS FLOODING.
Tides between Cape Preston and Onslow are likely to rise above the normal high tide mark with LARGE WAVES and MINOR FLOODING of low-lying coastal areas.

for Damaging, Locally Destructive Winds And Heavy Rainfall

for South East Coastal, Great Southern, Central Wheat Belt and parts of Gascoyne, Goldfields, Central West, Lower West, South Coastal and Eucla districts.

DAMAGING TO LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS AND HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE FOR PARTS OF SOUTH WEST LAND DIVISION SATURDAY.

Weather Situation
Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle is currently located near Coral Bay and will maintain a southerly track near the Gascoyne coast during Friday. The system is forecast to transition to a vigorous subtropical low on Saturday morning as it moves more rapidly to the southeast, with the risk of damaging winds and heavy rainfall continuing through Saturday as the system passes through southwestern districts before moving off the south coast on Saturday evening.
DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla, Central West, Lower West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt
DESTRUCTIVE WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with DESTRUCTIVE GUSTS in excess of 125 km/h are possible near the system in the northern part of the warning area during Saturday morning and may cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY.
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely over other northern parts of the warning area on Saturday morning, with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h likely to shift southwards over the remainder of the warning area during Saturday afternoon and evening.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Gascoyne, Central West, Lower West and Central Wheat Belt districts during Saturday morning and afternoon. Six-hour rainfall totals between 30 and 50 mm are likely, with isolated totals of around 70 mm possible mainly in the north of the warning area.
Conditions are likely to ease below warning thresholds by early Sunday morning as the system moves offshore.
A Tropical Cyclone Advice remains in place for Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle. A Flood Watch is also current for the area. Refer to www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts for the latest information.
Locations which may be affected include Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Katanning, Merredin, Moora, Mount Magnet, Narrogin, Norseman and Northam.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and strong easterly winds are expected during Friday and Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include the Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts and parts of the South East Coastal forecast district. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
