Major Flood Warning For The De Grey River Catchment

MAJOR FLOOD PEAK CLOSE TO MARCH 2000 FLOOD LEVELS POSSIBLE AT COOLENAR POOL LATE SATURDAY EVENING
A major flood peak is currently occurring along the De Grey River at Coolenar Pool where river levels are above the March 2013 flood levels and rising. Further river level rises to levels similar to the March 2000 floods are possible.
River levels along the De Grey River at Coolenar Pool will remain elevated into mid-week as peaks from the Shaw and Coongan Rivers are followed by peaks from the Nullagine and Oakover Rivers.
River level rises and areas of flooding may adversely affect road conditions. Some roads may become impassable and communities may become isolated. Significant disruption of transportation network and extensive road closures are expected.
Oakover River:
Moderate flooding is easing slowly along the Oakover River at Ripon Hills Rd, where a moderate flood peak was observed earlier on Saturday morning.
Nullagine River:
Major flooding peaked on Saturday morning along the Nullagine River at Nullagine and Tumbinna Pool. River levels are slowly easing on Saturday afternoon, however high river levels and areas of flooding are likely to remain overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Coongan River:
Major flooding is easing slowly along the Coongan River, after major peaks were observed early Saturday at Marble Bar and Marble Bar Rd Crossing. Further river level rises and areas of flooding are likely along the Coongan River downstream of Marble Bar Rd Crossing overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Shaw River:
Major flooding is easing slowly along the Shaw river. A major flood peak was observed early Saturday at Marble Bar Rd Crossing and moderate flooding is likely occurring at North Pole Mine. Further river level rises and areas of flooding are likely along the Shaw River between Marble Bar Rd Crossing and Coolenar Pool on the De Grey River overnight Saturday into Sunday.
De Grey River:
Major flooding is occurring along the De Grey River.
The De Grey River at Coolenar Pool is currently at 8.72 metres and rising with major flooding, currently above the March 2013 level (8.61 m).
Major flood levels are slowly approaching a major peak along the De Grey River at Coolenar Pool on Saturday evening. River levels close to the March 2000 floods (8.86 m) are possible. The river level is likely to remain above the major flood level (8.00 m) throughout the weekend.
Flood Safety Advice:
DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and velocity.}

Heavy rainfall continues as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia weakens over northern WA.
Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia is located about the southern Pilbara, near Christmas Creek, weakening as it continues to track south.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Pilbara and Gascoyne
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for the southeast Pilbara and northeast Gascoyne districts today. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 60 to 80 mm are possible. 24-hourly rainfall totals up to 100 mm are possible. Rainfall is forecast to ease during Saturday evening.
A Flood Watch and various Flood Warnings are current for parts of northern WA, please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/warnings for more information.
People in the north of WA may experience this type of weather each year at this time but winds and rain may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous.
Locations which may be affected include Newman, Jigalong and Three Rivers.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

FLOODING OCCURRING ACROSS EASTERN PARTS OF THE PILBARA COASTAL RIVERS CATCHMENT
Heavy rainfall has been observed in parts of the Pilbara Coastal Rivers catchment since Wednesday morning, heaviest about the east. This has caused river levels rises in eastern rivers within the Pilbara Coastal Rivers catchment.
Further shower and storms are forecast for the remainder of the weekend, associated with ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia.
A Flood Watch is current for the Fortescue River, Ashburton River and Gascoyne River
A Tropical Cyclone Advice is current for ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia.

AREAS OF FLOODING LIKELY FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT EASTERN PARTS OF FORTESCUE, ASHBURTON AND GASCOYNE RIVERS
Heavy rainfall is possible about eastern parts of the Fortescue, Ashburton and Gascoyne River catchments as ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia weakens further. This rainfall is likey to cause river level rises and flooding across eastern parts of the flood watch area.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of the Pilbara, Gascoyne and South Interior Districts. A Tropical Cyclone Advice is current for ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia.
Flood warnings are also current for the De Grey River, Sandy Desert and Pilbara Coastal Rivers catchments.
Catchments across the Flood Watch area, particularly towards the eastern parts of the catchments have become wet with recent rainfall.
Widespread heavy to locally intense rainfall is forecast about eastern parts of the flood watch area, where heavy rainfall is possible with showers and thunderstorms associated with ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia.
Forecast rainfall is likely to result in areas of flooding and river and stream level rises across eastern parts of the Flood Watch area. Areas of flooding may adversely affect road conditions and some communities may become isolated. Significant disruption of transport networks and extensive road closures are possible.

Heavy rainfall has been observed in parts of the Sandy Desert since Wednesday morning, heaviest about the coast and adjacent to the De Grey, Fortescue and Ashburton catchments. Further moderate to locally heavy rain is forecast for the remainder of the weekend, associated with ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia.
Rapid river level rises and areas of widespread flooding are expected to develop across parts of the Sandy Desert through the weekend.
A Flood Watch is current for the Fortescue River, Onslow Coast, Ashburton River, Gascoyne River and parts of the Sandy Desert catchment.
A Tropical Cyclone Advice is current for ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia.
