Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds And Heavy Rainfall

for South East Coastal, Central Wheat Belt and parts of Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla, Central West, Great Southern and South Coastal districts.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle continues to move southeast, bringing damaging winds and heavy rainfall to southern and central parts today.

Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle has weakened this morning, becoming a subtropical low which is currently located in the inland Central West to the north of Dalwallinu. The system will continue to move rapidly towards the south southeast today, with the risk of damaging winds and heavy rainfall continuing as the system passes through the southern Gascoyne, Goldfields and inland parts of the South West Land Division. The system eventually moves off the south coast to the west of Esperance later this evening.
DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla, Central West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts up to 120 km/h are likely to the east of the system centre during the morning, mainly in the north of the warning area, northwest of a line from Dalwallinu to Merredin to Kalgoorlie. During the afternoon and evening as the system moves south, winds will average 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h, most likely east of Merredin to Ravensthorpe, including Kalgoorlie and Esperance.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Gascoyne, Central West, Central Wheat Belt and Great Southern districts during the morning and afternoon, easing by early evening. Six-hour rainfall totals between 30 and 50 mm are possible.
Conditions are likely to ease below warning thresholds during the late evening or early Sunday morning as the system moves offshore.
Widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms are also likely over remaining southwestern parts of the state during Saturday. If heavy rainfall develops in this area, a separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning may be issued.

Locations which may be affected include Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Merredin, Mount Magnet, Norseman and Dalwallinu.

Lower West

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 12:00 pm AWST Saturday.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle (34U) is located inland east of Geraldton and is no longer a tropical cyclone.

Areas Affected:
Warning zone: None.

Watch zone: None.

Cancelled zone: Inland areas between Gascoyne Junction to Dalwallinu.

Details of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle 34U at 5:00 am AWST:
Intensity: Tropical Low, sustained winds near the centre of 75 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 55 kilometres of 28.4 degrees South 115.9 degrees East, estimated to be 135 kilometres east northeast of Geraldton and 90 kilometres north of Morawa.
Movement: south southeast at 41 kilometres per hour.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle lies over the Gascoyne northeast of Dongara and is weakening as it moves quickly south-southeast. It is expected to continue tracking quickly south-southeast over land while weakening further during today. Impacts will extend into the Central West, before spreading further inland and south across the South West Land Division.

Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and strong westerly winds are expected during Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include the Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
