Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for parts of South Coastal and South East Coastal districts.

Issued at 4:04 am Sunday, 22 June 2025.

Damaging winds possible today along coastal parts of the South West Land Division.

Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system developing in waters south of Albany is forecast to bring strong to damaging winds about the southern coastal districts today.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
South Coastal and South East Coastal
Strong to DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible about the southern coastal districts throughout Sunday.
Winds should ease over the area this evening before potentially increasing again on Monday afternoon.
This is typical weather for this time of year.
A separate warning for DAMAGING SURF and ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES is also current. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/warnings/.
Locations which may be affected include Albany, Esperance, Israelite Bay, Bremer Bay and Hopetoun.
89km/h wind gust was recorded at Esperance at 3:30am WST.
87km/h wind gust was recorded at Mount Howick at 2:00am WST.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AWST Sunday.

Coastal Hazard Warning
for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DAMAGING SURF

for parts of South Coastal and South East Coastal districts.

Damaging Surf and abnormally High Tides this morning.

Weather Situation
A deep low pressure system south of Esperance is forecast to move east across the Bight today. This is expected to bring gusty gale force winds and elevated waves to parts of southern WA.
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DAMAGING SURF for the following areas:
South Coastal and South East Coastal
DAMAGING SURF CONDITIONS which may lead to coastal erosion and localised damage to coastal infrastructure is possible between Albany and Israelite Bay this morning and peaking between Hopetoun and Cape Le Grand early this morning.
Beach conditions in these areas could be DANGEROUS and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas, particularly for southwest facing coasts.
Tides are likely to rise above the normal high tide mark leading to potential flooding of low-lying coastal areas between Hopetoun and Israelite Bay this morning.
These conditions are expected to ease by early afternoon today.

* Move furniture and other items up high to avoid water damage.
* Have an evacuation kit ready including medicines, important documents, pet supplies and clothing.
* In a life threatening situation call 000.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
