Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy, Locally Intense Rainfall

for parts of Kimberley district.

LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL ABOUT THE NORTH KIMBERLEY COAST

Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Errol made landfall just south of Kuri Bay Friday afternoon and it continues to weaken as it moves further inland. While the low is no longer a tropical cyclone, moderate to possibly heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next several hours as the system tracks inland.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
Kimberley
LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is possible about the north Kimberley coast over the next few hours, with six-hourly totals of 100 to 140mm possible, and with isolated falls in thunderstorms in excess of 150 mm.
Moderate to HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for the remaining parts of the northern Kimberley for the next few hours. Six-hourly rainfall totals of 50 to 80 mm, with isolated falls in thunderstorms excess of 100 mm, are possible.
Rainfall is expected to ease below warning thresholds by later on Saturday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Wyndham, Kalumburu and Troughton Island.
KALUMBURU RECORDED 139.2 MM IN THE 3 HOURS TO 1:45 AM

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AWST Saturday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Department of Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
