Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
Central West, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and southeasterly winds are expected during Tuesday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the Central West, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm WST Monday.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Damaging Winds

for Central Wheat Belt and parts of South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Goldfields districts.

Issued at 2:02 pm Monday, 9 February 2026.

Severe thunderstorms developing over inland areas.

Weather Situation
A trough is producing fast-moving, gusty thunderstorms over the inland areas across the southwest during the afternoon.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Goldfields, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Merredin, Bremer Bay, Corrigin, Dowerin, Hopetoun and Hyden.
91 km/h wind gust was recorded at Lake Grace at 1:45 pm.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
* Slow down and turn your headlights on.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:05 pm.

for Heavy Rainfall And Damaging Winds

for Central West and parts of Gascoyne and Central Wheat Belt districts.

Tropical Cyclone Mitchell to bring heavy rainfall and damaging winds to the Gascoyne, Central West and Central Wheat Belt districts from late Monday evening.

Weather Situation
Tropical Cyclone Mitchell is moving southwards along the Ningaloo and Gascoyne coasts and is expected to turn southeast and cross the Gascoyne coast later Monday. It will weaken as it moves inland overnight and transitions into a extratropical low on Tuesday, bringing heavy rainfall and damaging winds as it tracks inland.
HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Gascoyne, Central West and Central Wheat Belt
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Gascoyne, Central West and northern parts of the Central Wheat Belt from early Tuesday morning, especially on the southern and western sides of the low pressure system. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 25 and 50 mm are likely with localised falls to 80 mm possible. 24-hour rainfall totals between 50 and 80 mm are likely with localised totals to 120 mm possible.
DAMAGING WINDS GUSTS with peak gusts to 100 km/h are possible from late Monday evening, particularly to the east of the low pressure system.
People in the north of WA may experience this type of weather each year at this time but winds and rain may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous. This type of weather is unseasonable for people in the Central West and Central Wheat Belt at this time of year.

Hot and dry conditions combined with fresh and gusty north east to northwesterly winds are leading to elevated fire dangers on Monday.
