Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall And Damaging Winds

for parts of Kimberley, Pilbara, Goldfields, Eucla, North Interior and South Interior districts.

Issued at 4:28 am Monday, 26 January 2026.

Heavy rainfall and damaging winds possible near ex-Tropical Cyclone Luana.

Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Luana is moving steadily towards the south. Ongoing severe weather is possible near the system today in the North Interior, and in the coming days as it moves further southwards and combines with an upper trough.
HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Kimberley, Pilbara, Goldfields, Eucla, North Interior and South Interior
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of about 90 km/h are possible near the system during Monday in the North Interior.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely about southern parts of the Kimberley and the North Interior later during Monday. HEAVY RAINFALL is expected to clear the Kimberley during the day on Monday, and extend to the South Interior later from Monday evening, and to northern Eucla on Tuesday. 6-hourly totals between 70 and 120 mm are likely. 24-hourly totals between 80 and 150 mm are likely, with isolated falls up to 200 mm possible close to the system.

Locations which may be affected include Carnegie, Parnngurr, Telfer and Warburton.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AWST Monday.

Hot to very hot and dry conditions with moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds, tending fresh and gusty westerly in the afternoon about the Pilbara coast.
