Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Damaging Winds, Large Hailstones And Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Wollondilly/Wingecarribee area.

Severe thunderstorm approaching Picton.

DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Wollondilly/Wingecarribee
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 1:50 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging wind gusts, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Yerranderie. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect the southern reaches of Lake Burragorang by 2:20 pm and Oakdale and the area west of Picton by 2:50 pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Lower Western, Upper Western and Snowy Mountains districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 2:55 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

An approaching upper trough is combining with a warm and unstable airmass to produce severe thunderstorms this afternoon.
DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Lower Western, Upper Western and Snowy Mountains
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging wind gusts, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Lower Western districts. Locations which may be affected include Orange, Goulburn, Katoomba, Parkes, Young and West Wyalong.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging wind gusts over the next several hours in parts of the Central West Slopes and Plains, Lower Western and Upper Western districts. Locations which may be affected include Cobar, Louth and Tilpa.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.

* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
