Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Damaging Winds And Large Hailstones

for parts of Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Gosford/Wyong, Sydney and Wollondilly/Wingecarribee areas.

Severe thunderstorms continue over parts of Greater Sydney this afternoon.

DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas:
Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Gosford/Wyong, Sydney and Wollondilly/Wingecarribee
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:35 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones were detected near Katoomba and Richmond. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to affect Springwood, Glenorie and Riverstone by 3:50 pm and Penrith, Oakdale and Warragamba by 4:05 pm.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Maitland/Cessnock

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Hunter, Metropolitan, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and parts of the Illawarra, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 4:05 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS IN NORTHERN PARTS OF THE NORTH WEST, WITH POSSIBLE GIANT HAIL AND DESTRUCTIVE WINDS

Severe thunderstorms continuing in a warm and unstable airmass over large areas of the north and east.
DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western, Snowy Mountains and Northern Tablelands
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large, possibly giant hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the North West Slopes and Plains district. Locations which may be affected include Moree.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Hunter, Metropolitan, South Coast, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains and parts of the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Illawarra, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Snowy Mountains, Northern Tablelands and Upper Western districts. Locations which may be affected include Gosford, Armidale, Tamworth, Moree, Batemans Bay and Scone.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the South West Slopes district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.
5-6 CM HAIL AT CROPPA CREEK AT 2:40 PM.
109 km/h wind gust was recorded at Walgett at 2:24 pm

* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

for Lower Central West Plains and Northern Riverina fire weather districts

Weather Situation
Warm and dry conditions, combined with fresh and gusty north to northwesterly winds shifting westerly during the afternoon, will lead to elevated fire dangers on Saturday.

Lower Central West Plains and Northern Riverina
