Weather Situation
A warm, moist, unstable atmosphere and a surface trough is producing thunderstorms across the State today.
LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES, DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Upper Western, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Tablelands
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Illawarra, Southern Tablelands and South Coast districts. Locations which may be affected include Goulburn and Nowra.
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce heavy, locally intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the South Coast, Snowy Mountains and Southern Tablelands districts. Locations which may be affected include Moruya Heads and Narooma.
Severe thunderstorms are likely over the next several hours in the South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains, Snowy Mountains and parts of the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Northern Tablelands, Upper Western and Australian Capital Territory districts. Locations which may be affected include Goulburn, Tamworth, Moree, Nowra, Scone, Katoomba, Cooma, Narrabri, Bega, Moruya Heads, Mungindi and Coonabarabran.

* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.

Severe thunderstorm moving over the Blue Mountains

DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Sydney and Wollondilly/Wingecarribee
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:05 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near the Oberon district and the Lithgow district. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect Katoomba, Blackheath and the Jamison Valley by 5:35 pm and Penrith, Springwood and Blaxland by 6:05 pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
