for parts of Greater Newcastle, Gosford/Wyong and Maitland/Cessnock areas.

HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Maitland/Cessnock, Greater Newcastle and Gosford/Wyong
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 7:50 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Wyong and Dooralong. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect Budgewoi, Toukley and Gorokan by 8:20 pm and Belmont, Swansea and Redhead by 8:50 pm.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury,Wollongong,Sydney

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
For emergency help in flood and storms, ring the SES on 132 500.

Severe thunderstorms continuing in eastern parts this evening.

Weather Situation
A warm, moist, unstable atmosphere and a surface trough is producing thunderstorms across the State today.
HEAVY RAINFALL, DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Snowy Mountains and Northern Tablelands
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Taree, Gosford, Batemans Bay, Scone, Katoomba and Moruya Heads.
