Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for parts of Snowy Mountains Forecast District.

Issued at 5:00 pm Friday, 10 April 2026.

Damaging winds continue about alpine areas, easing this evening.

Weather Situation
Vigorous northwesterly winds will continue across elevated parts of the southeast this afternoon. Winds will continue to ease into the evening as the front moves further into the Tasman Sea.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Snowy Mountains
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h remain possible this evening.
For ALPINE PEAKS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts of around 115 km/h remaining this evening.
Damaging winds are no longer expected about the South Coast ranges. Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds about the Snowy Mountains later this evening.
Locations which may be affected include Thredbo, Perisher Valley and Charlotte Pass.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Tablelands districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Illawarra,South Coast,Southern Tablelands

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
For emergency help in flood and storms, ring the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Friday.
