Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Damaging Winds And Large Hailstones

for parts of Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury and Sydney areas.

Severe thunderstorms north of Katoomba, tracking east to northeast.

DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas:
Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury and Sydney
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:00 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones was detected near the Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens and the Grose Valley in the Blue Mountains. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect Bilpin, Kurrajong and the Wollemi National Park north of Kurrajong by 3:15 pm and Richmond, Colo and Wilberforce by 3:30 pm.

* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the North West Slopes and Plains and parts of the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western, Northern Tablelands and Illawarra districts.

A cold front moving through NSW combines with an upper-level trough and an unstable airmass to produce severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in the North West Slopes and Plains and parts of the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western, Northern Tablelands and Illawarra districts. Locations which may be affected include Taree, Tamworth, Scone, Katoomba, Narrabri and Walgett.
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Mid North Coast and Hunter districts. Locations which may be affected include Dungog.

* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.

Weather Situation
Hot to very hot and dry conditions will combine with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds over much of New South Wales on Wednesday. Wind will begin to ease during the evening and shift west to southwesterly over western parts. Gusty thunderstorms are expected to develop over northern and eastern districts, most likely in the afternoon.
