Heavy rainfall continuing in western Sydney this evening.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Sydney
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 9:45 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Blacktown and Rooty Hill. This thunderstorm is moving towards the southwest. It is forecast to affect Fairfield, Horsley Park and Cecil Park by 10:15 pm and Liverpool, Badgerys Creek and Leppington by 10:45 pm.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Maitland/Cessnock,Hunter,Newcastle
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Hunter, Metropolitan and Southern Tablelands districts.
