HEAVY TO LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL ABOUT SYDNEY AND CENTRAL COAST

Weather Situation
A trough along central parts of the coast is generating areas of showers and isolated thunderstorms, with some of these delivering heavy to intense rainfall. Thunderstorms are developing across northeast parts of the state, and may also become severe.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
Hunter, Metropolitan and Illawarra
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce heavy, locally intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Woy Woy, Bulli and Port Kembla.

These thunderstorms are slow moving. They are forecast to affect Terrey Hills, Brooklyn and Spencer by 5:50 pm and Woy Woy by 6:20 pm.
Other severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Sutherland, Engadine and waters off the Royal National Park. These thunderstorms are slow moving. They are forecast to affect Lucas Heights and Menai by 5:50 pm and Waterfall, Kurnell and Padstow by 6:20 pm.

NSW Police Force, Marine Area Command advise that:
People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
Boaters should remember to log on with their local Marine Rescue radio base, via VHF Radio or the Marine Rescue APP, and consider their safety management plan.
