Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Damaging Winds And Large Hailstones

for parts of Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Gosford/Wyong and Sydney areas.

Severe thunderstorms north of Richmond, tracking east to northeast.

DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas:
Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Gosford/Wyong and Sydney
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:20 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones was detected near the Wollemi National Park north of Kurrajong. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect Maroota, Colo and Wilberforce by 3:35 pm and Calga, Brooklyn and Wisemans Ferry by 3:50 pm.

100 km/h wind gust recorded at Maitland Airport at 02:03 pm.
106 km/h wind gust recorded at Merriwa at 01:52 pm.
109 km/h wind gust recorded at Dubbo at 12:25 pm.
111 km/h wind gust recorded at Trangie at 12:01 pm.
110 km/h wind gust recorded at Orange at 11:52 am.
98 km/h wind gust recorded at Parkes at 11:02 am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Mid North Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and parts of the Hunter, Metropolitan, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 3:50 pm.

Severe thunderstorms continuing for northern and central NSW.

Weather Situation
A cold front moving through NSW combines with an upper-level trough and an unstable airmass to produce severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Taree, Tamworth, Port Macquarie, Scone, Narrabri and Walgett.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Illawarra district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

Weather Situation
Hot to very hot and dry conditions will combine with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds over much of New South Wales on Wednesday. Wind will begin to ease during the evening and shift west to southwesterly over western parts. Gusty thunderstorms are expected to develop over northern and eastern districts, most likely in the afternoon.
