Weather Situation
Hot to very hot and dry conditions will combine with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds over much of New South Wales on Wednesday. Wind will begin to ease during the evening and shift west to southwesterly over western parts. Gusty thunderstorms are expected to develop over northern and eastern districts, most likely in the afternoon.

Greater Hunter, Greater Sydney Region, Illawarra/Shoalhaven, Central Ranges, North Western, Upper Central West Plains, Southern Slopes, Eastern Riverina, Southern Riverina and Northern Riverina

The NSW Rural Fire Service advises you to:
Action your Bushfire Survival Plan now.

for Damaging Winds And Large Hailstones

for Greater Newcastle and parts of Maitland/Cessnock areas.

DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas:
Maitland/Cessnock and Greater Newcastle
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:00 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones was detected near Maitland and Raymond Terrace. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect Newcastle City, Nelson Bay and Medowie by 4:30 pm and waters off Port Stephens by 5:00 pm.
93 km/h wind gust was recorded at Singleton at 3:33 pm

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Mid North Coast, Hunter, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, Northern Tablelands, Central Tablelands and Upper Western districts.

A front crosses central New South Wales on Wednesday, bringing increased west to northwesterly flow and damaging wind gusts to parts of the southeast.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory
DAMAGING WEST TO NORTHWESTERLY WIND GUSTS in excess of 90 km/h are expected to develop across the warning area from Wednesday morning, continuing through the afternoon, then easing during Wednesday evening.
Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Nowra, Canberra, Goulburn, Bowral, Katoomba, Cooma, Braidwood and Bombala.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.

Weather Situation
A warm and humid airmass combined with a trough and west to southwesterly change are triggering thunderstorms this afternoon.
DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Tamworth, Scone, Maitland, Gunnedah and Narrabri.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
