HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Greater Newcastle
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 11:55 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Medowie and Salt Ash. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Anna Bay, Lemon Tree Passage and Mallabula by 12:25 am and Nelson Bay and waters off Port Stephens by 12:55 am.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Hunter district.
