Hazardous Surf Warning for Queensland

Weather Situation
Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming in the following areas from late Sunday morning, mainly in offshore waters.

Warnings for Sunday 11 May

Hazardous Surf Warning for the following areas:
K'gari Coast, Sunshine Coast Waters and Gold Coast Waters

Surf Life Saving Queensland advise that:
People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
Boaters should remember to log on with their local radio base and consider their safety management plan.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EST Saturday.

Minor To Moderate Flood Warning For The Darling River

MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING AT LOUTH AND LIKELY AT TILPA FRIDAY AFTERNOON
The main flood peak along the Darling River is now downstream of Louth, where a moderate flood peak occurred on Wednesday. The river level may remain above moderate until Monday.
At Tilpa, minor flooding is occurring, and moderate flooding is likely Friday afternoon. At Wilcannia, minor flooding is likely from Sunday this week, with higher levels possible.
Based on current forecast river flows and WaterNSW operational strategy, at this stage flooding is not expected at Menindee Town gauge. The Bureau will continue working closely with WaterNSW and this warning will be updated if the situation changes.

Darling River downstream of Bourke to Tilpa:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Darling River downstream of Bourke to Tilpa.
The Darling River at Louth peaked at 10.28 metres around 11:00 pm Wednesday 07 May and is currently at 10.21 metres and falling slowly, above the moderate flood level (10.00 m).
The Darling River at Louth may remain above the moderate flood level (10.00 m) until Monday.

The Darling River at Tilpa is currently at 10.45 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (9.00 m).
The Darling River at Tilpa may exceed the moderate flood level (10.50 m) Friday afternoon. The river level may peak near 10.80 metres between Sunday (11 May) and Tuesday (13 May), with moderate flooding.

Darling River downstream of Tilpa to Wilcannia:
Minor flooding is likely along the Darling River downstream of Tilpa to Wilcannia.
The Darling River at Wilcannia is currently at 8.81 metres and rising slowly, below the minor flood level (9.00 m).
The Darling River at Wilcannia is likely to reach the minor flood level (9.00 m) during Sunday. The river level may reach around 9.40 to 9.60 metres between 19 and 22 May. Predictions will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.

Darling River downstream of Wilcannia to Burtundy:
Flooding not expected at Menindee Town.
The Darling River at Menindee Town is currently at 4.01 metres and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Darling River at Menindee Town is expected to remain below the minor flood level (8.50 m).

In life threatening emergencies, call 000 (triple zero) immediately. If you require rescue, assistance to evacuate or other emergency help, ring NSW SES on 132 500.
* Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
* Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
* Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
* Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.}
