for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Daly, Arnhem and Carpentaria districts.

Heavy rainfall in the inland Top End.

Weather Situation
A very moist airmass is interacting with the monsoon trough to produce heavy rainfall in slow moving thunderstorms.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Daly, Arnhem and Carpentaria
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Pine Creek, Dorisvale and Kakadu National Park south of Cooinda.
128 mm WAS RECORDED AT DORISVALE CROSSING IN 3 HOURS TO 10:36 pm.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* slow down and turn your headlights on
* create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillow cases or shopping bags filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home
* secure loose outside objects
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current

The next warning is due to be issued by 6:35 am.

Flood Watch For Parts Of The Bonaparte, North West Coastal And Carpentaria Coastal River Catchments

FLOODING POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE BONAPARTE, NORTH WEST COASTAL AND CARPENTARIA COASTAL RIVERS
A weak tropical low 31U that developed in the Gulf of Carpentaria is expected to move slowly westwards over the Top End later this week and into the weekend. Heavy rainfall associated with 31U is most likely on the western side of the low and will transition from coastal areas near the southeast Top End and Carpentaria Districts, into parts of the Darwin & Adelaide River, Daly, and coastal parts of the Gregory Districts into the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms will be more frequent around the low, but there is still uncertainty in its exact track and timing.
Catchments in the Flood Watch area are wet from recent rainfall.
Rainfall may cause significant water level rises in rivers and creeks as well as prolonged overland flooding and ponding. Roads may become impassable. Some communities and homesteads may become isolated. Check road conditions before travelling.

A moderate flood warning is current for the Waterhouse River. A minor flood warning is current for the Katherine River.

Final Flood Warning For The Victoria River

MINOR FLOODING IS NO LONGER OCCURRING AT KALKARINDJI
Minor flooding is no longer occurring along the upper Victoria River at Kalkarindji.
Further showers are forecast for the Victoria River catchment over the next few days. The situation is being monitored and forecasts and warnings will be issued as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Bonaparte, North West Coastal and Carpentaria Coastal River catchments.

Upper Victoria River:
Minor flooding is no longer occurring along the upper Victoria River.
The Victoria River at Kalkarindji is currently at 5.55 m and falling, below the minor flood level (9.00 m).
The Victoria River at Kalkarindji is expected to remain below the minor flood level.

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
