    Major Flood Warning For The Daly River

    RENEWED RIVER RISES AND PROLONGED MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT DALY RIVER POLICE STATION
     Moderate to heavy rainfall associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle has been observed across the Daly River catchment since Sunday. The flood peak has passed Dorisvale Crossing and is approaching Theyona Station. Prolonged major flooding is continuing along the Daly River at Daly River Police Station, where the  river levels are expected to remain above the major flood level for the remainder of March. While recent rainfall has caused renewed rises in river levels, they are expected to remain well below levels recorded earlier in March. 
     Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the Daly River catchment over the next few days but are not expected to contribute significantly to riverine flows.  
     A major flood warning is current for the Katherine River. 
    
    Daly River above Douglas River:
    River levels are elevated along the Daly River downstream of Dorisvale Crossing. Renewed rises are occurring at  Theyona Station.
    Lower Daly River:
    Prolonged major flooding is continuing along the Daly River with renewed rises.
    The Daly River  at Daly River Police Station is currently at 14.54 m and rising slowly, with major flooding.
    The Daly River  at Daly River Police Station is expected to remain above the major flood level (14.00 m) for the remainder of March. 
    
    Flood Safety Advice:
    Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
     Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
     Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
     Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
