MAJOR FLOODING ABOVE THE MARCH 2000 FLOOD LEVEL OCCURRING AT KATHERINE BRIDGE
KATHERINE BRIDGE MAY REACH 18.50 M WITH MAJOR FLOODING SATURDAY MORNING
MAJOR FLOODING ABOVE THE MARCH 2000 FLOOD LEVEL OCCURRING AT NITMILUK CENTRE
Rapid river level rises are occurring along the Katherine River and its tributaries. Major flooding is occurring at Nitmiluk Centre, where the river level is above the March 2000 flood level (7.40 m) and rising. Major flooding above the March 2000 flood level is also occurring at Katherine Bridge, with rises to 18.50 m possible during Saturday morning.
Further rainfall is expected during Saturday, which may cause higher river level rises. This situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Bonaparte, North West Coastal and Carpentaria Coastal River catchments. A severe weather warning is current for heavy rainfall in the Daly and parts of Arnhem districts.
Katherine River Gorge Road:
Major flooding is occurring at Katherine River Gorge Road.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is currently at 9.21 m and rising, with major flooding.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre may peak near 9.40 m early Saturday morning, with major flooding.
Katherine Town:
Major flooding is occurring at Katherine Town.
The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is currently at 18.11 m and rising, with major flooding.
The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge may reach around 18.50 m Saturday morning, with major flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.

for Heavy Rainfall
for Daly and parts of Arnhem districts.

Heavy rainfall about the western Top End.
Weather Situation
A tropical low is positioned about the southwest Arnhem district, embedded within a trough extending into the Carpentaria district. The low is expected to remain slow-moving over the next 24 hours, with broad areas of heavy rainfall on its western flank.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Daly and Arnhem
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Daly and far western Arnhem districts. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 90 to 140 mm are likely.
There is high degree of uncertainty regarding the progression of heavy rainfall over the Top End into Saturday. However the most likely outcome is a slow westwards progression of areas of heavy rainfall early Saturday. Although showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue a gradual easing in the risk of heavy falls is expected towards late Saturday.
Locations which may be affected include Wadeye, Nauiyu, Batchelor, Adelaide River, Pine Creek and Palumpa.
155.5 mm of rainfall was recorded at Theyona Station in the 6 hours to 3:46 pm.
111 mm of rainfall was recorded at Birdie Creek in the 6 hours to 7:16 am.
104 mm of rainfall was recorded at Edith Falls Ridge in the 6 hours to 7:21 am.
The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* secure loose outside objects and seek shelter when conditions deteriorate
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillow cases or shopping bags filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home
* stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* be prepared in case of power outages, have an emergency kit with a radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit

MAJOR FLOODING PEAKED AT BESWICK BRIDGE, WITH SMALL RENEWED RISES POSSIBLE
Recent heavy rainfall across the Waterhouse and Roper catchments has resulted in significant river level rises along the Waterhouse River, with major flooding occurring at Beswick Bridge. Major flooding has peaked at Beswick Bridge, however small renewed rises are possible overnight Friday into Saturday and major flooding is likely to continue into Saturday.
Elevated river levels and river level rises are occurring throughout the Roper River catchment.
Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days, which may lead to renewed river level rises.
This situation will be closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Bonaparte, North West Coastal and Carpentaria Coastal River catchments. A severe weather warning is current for heavy rainfall in the Daly and parts of Arnhem districts.
Waterhouse River:
Major flooding is occurring along the Waterhouse River.
The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge peaked at 9.32 m around 2:15 pm Friday, with major flooding. The river is currently at 9.21 m and steady, with major flooding.
Small renewed river level rises are possible and the Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is likely to remain above the major flood level (8.70 m) overnight Friday into Saturday.
Roper River below Elsey Creek:
Elevated river levels and river level rises are occurring throughout the Roper River catchment.
Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG THE DALY RIVER AT DALY RIVER POLICE STATION FROM SATURDAY OVERNIGHT
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Daly River catchment since Wednesday, with particularly heavy rainfall during Thursday and into Friday, resulting in river level rises upstream of Daly River Police Station. Moderate flooding is likely at Daly River Police Station from Saturday morning, with major flooding possible from overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Further rainfall is forecast during the remainder of Friday and into Saturday, this situation will be closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A major flood warning is current for the Katherine River, a flood watch is current for parts of the Bonaparte, North West Coastal and Carpentaria Coastal River catchments and a severe weather warning is current for heavy rainfall in the Daly and parts of Arnhem districts.
Daly River above Douglas River:
River rises are occurring in the upper Daly River, and flooding will continue for at least the next few days.
Fergusson River:
River levels are rapidly rising along the Fergusson River and tributaries.
Lower Daly River:
Major flooding is possible along the Daly River.
The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is currently at 12.40 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is likely to exceed the minor flood level (12.60 m) overnight Friday into Saturday. The river is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (13.10 m) from Saturday morning. The river may reach around the major flood level (14.00 m) from Saturday overnight into Sunday. Further rises are possible.
