Minor Flood Warning For The Katherine River

MINOR FLOODING EASING AT NITMILUK CENTRE
Heavy rainfall has been recorded across the Katherine River Catchment overnight Wednesday into Thursday, and has resulted in rapid river level rises and minor flooding at Nitmiluk Centre. A minor flood peak was observed at Nitmiluk Centre during Thursday morning. River levels are slowly falling, however renewed rises are possible overnight Thursday with forecast rainfall.
River levels at Katherine Bridge are expected to remain below the minor flood level for the next few days.
Katherine River Gorge Road:
Minor flooding is occurring at Nitmiluk Centre.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre peaked at 3.70 m around 10:20 am Thursday. The river is currently at 3.30 m and falling, with minor flooding.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre may remain above the minor flood level (3.00 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. Renewed rises are possible overnight with forecast rainfall.
Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
