Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall is possible about the northeast coast today.

Weather Situation
Areas of converging enhanced onshore winds may set up over parts of the northeast coast today, possibly more likely later this evening and overnight tonight. These combined with a very humid airmass bring the risk of heavy rainfall.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast about the coast and adjacent inland areas from about Townsville to Yarrabah, more likely this evening and overnight. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 100 to 180 mm are likely, with isolated falls in excess of 220 mm possible.
A separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued if very dangerous thunderstorms with intense rainfall are detected.

Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Yarrabah, Cardwell, Tully, Rollingstone, Innisfail and Lucinda.
Significant rainfall from yesterday (Tuesday) evening:
153 MM OF RAINFALL WAS RECORDED AT MARCO ST (INNISFAIL) IN THE 2 HOURS TO 9:10 pm.
210 mm of rainfall was recorded at Mourilyan Mill in the 6 hours to 11:39 pm.
212 mm of rainfall was recorded at Cowley Beach in the 6 hours to 11:35 pm.
173 mm of rainfall was recorded at Corsis Alert in the 3 hours to 10:21 pm.
124 mm of rainfall was recorded at Tung Oil Alert in the 2 hours to 9:03 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AEST Wednesday.

Minor Flood Warning For The Mulgrave River And Flood Warning For The Russell River

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT PEETS BRIDGE AND GORDONVALE OVERNIGHT TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Mulgrave and Russell River catchments. River level rises are occurring and further rainfall is forecast from Tuesday into Wednesday.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the North Tropical Coast and a Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for the Mulgrave and Russell Rivers.

Mulgrave River:
Minor flooding is possible along the Mulgrave River.
The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge is currently at 2.01 m AHD and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge may reach around the minor flood level (5.00 m AHD) from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday with forecast rainfall.

The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale is currently at 7.70 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale may reach around the minor flood level (12.00 m) from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday with forecast rainfall.

Russell River:
River levels are elevated and continuing to rise along the Russell River.

Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.

Minor Flood Warning For The Tully River

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT EURAMO, FURTHER RISES POSSIBLE NEXT FEW DAYS
Moderate to heavy rainfall observed across the Tully River catchment has caused river level rises throughout the catchment, with minor flooding occurring at Euramo during Tuesday morning. Further moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast over the next few days which may cause further river level rises.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for the Tully and Murray catchments, and a Flood Watch is current for adjoining catchments.

Tully River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Tully River.
The Tully River at Euramo is currently at 6.10 m and rising, with minor flooding.
The Tully River at Euramo may reach around 6.20 m Tuesday afternoon, with minor flooding. The river may remain around the minor flood level (6.00 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Further rises and higher levels are possible with forecast rain into Wednesday.
