Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for Heavy Rainfall
for parts of Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Brisbane City, Moreton Bay and Toowoomba Council Areas.

HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Somerset, Toowoomba, Lockyer Valley, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:50 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near the area south of Esk, the area southwest of Esk, the area northwest of Esk and the D'Aguilar Ranges. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Esk, Lake Samsonvale and northern Lake Wivenhoe by 6:20 pm and Caboolture, southern Lake Wivenhoe and Narangba by 6:50 pm.
39 mm was recorded at Mooga Hills in the 30 minutes to 4:20 pm.
46 mm was recorded at Tara Lagoon in the 30 minutes to 3:27 pm
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts.
Other warnings may be current.
The next warning is due to be issued by 7:00 pm.
