Heavy rainfall continues in the north Queensland interior this afternoon.
Weather Situation
A monsoon trough lies across the northern Queensland interior in an environment rich with tropical moisture, allowing the development of slow-moving heavy showers and severe thunderstorms.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Herbert and Lower Burdekin and North West
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Richmond, Julia Creek, Innisfail, Babinda, Gregory Springs and Cloney's Creek.
108 mm was recorded at Savanah in the 3 hours to 12:00 pm.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

Weather Situation
Significant rainfall may continue over the weekend about the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and the Cassowary Coast, with a monsoon trough in place, rich tropical moisture and onshore flow expected to strengthen. Enhanced rainfall due to widespread showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms is possible throughout the weekend and into the early part of the week, with extremely wet soils and river catchments leading to a higher than normal vulnerability to flash flooding.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and the North Tropical Coast this weekend. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 120 to 180 mm are possible. Isolated 24-hourly rainfall totals up to 250 mm are possible. Rainfall has increased this afternoon, with isolated heavy falls possible through the remainder of the weekend, before easing early this week.
Heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
A Flood Watch and various Flood Warnings are current for parts of northeastern Queensland. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for more information.

RENEWED MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GAIRLOCH, INGHAM PUMP STATION, ABERGOWRIE BRIDGE AND GLENEAGLE FROM OVERNIGHT SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY
Heavy rainfall has been observed across the Herbert River catchment over the last week, particularly over the lower reaches of the catchment. Further heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of the weekend.
Minor flooding continues along the Herbert River. Renewed river level rises and areas of minor to major flooding are possible along the Herbert River with forecast rainfall, however the river levels are not expected to reach the levels seen earlier this month at this stage.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.
The flood situation is being closely monitored and forecasts and warnings will be updated as required.
Herbert River to Nash's Crossing:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Herbert River to Nash's Crossing.
No recent observations are available for the Herbert River at Gleneagle, however, based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level at Gleneagle is expected to be above the minor flood level (4.50 m).
The Herbert River at Gleneagle may reach the moderate flood level (8.50 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday, with forecast rainfall.
Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing:
Moderate to major flooding may occur along the Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing.
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is currently at 6.70 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (6.00 m).
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge may reach the moderate flood level (10.00 m) from Sunday morning, with forecast rainfall.
The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station (Alert gauge) is currently at 7.89 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (10.00 m).
The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station may reach the minor flood level (10.00 m) from Sunday morning. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (11.00 m) from late Sunday morning, with forecast rainfall.

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT INKERMAN BRIDGE FROM LATE SUNDAY
Recent heavy rainfall has resulted in river level rises along the Burdekin, Cape, Belyando and Suttor Rivers.
River level rises are occurring along the Cape River, where major flooding is nearing a peak at Taemas during Saturday. River level rises are also occurring along the Belyando and Suttor Rivers, where moderate flooding is occurring at St Anns during Saturday.
River level rises are occurring along the Burdekin River where major flooding is occurring at Sellheim, moderate flooding is occurring at Dalbeg, Clare and Inkerman Bridge. Major flooding is possible at Inkerman Bridge late Sunday.
Further rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over the next few days. A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.
The flood situation is being closely monitored and forecasts and warnings will be updated as required.
Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Suttor River at St Anns is currently at 6.50 metres and steady, with moderate flooding.
The river level is likely to remain above the moderate flood level for the remainder of Saturday. Further rises are possible with the arrival of upstream flow and forecast rainfall.
Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding is likely along the Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Cape River at Taemas is currently at 7.71 metres and rising, with moderate flooding.
The Cape River at Taemas is likely to reach the major flood level (8.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday. The river level may remain around the major flood level (8.00 m) during Sunday.
Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding is occurring along the Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Burdekin River at Sellheim is currently at 17.15 metres and steady, around a major peak.
The Burdekin River at Sellheim is likely to remain around current levels during Saturday afternoon, before commencing to ease.
The Burdekin River at Burdekin Dam is currently at 5.58 metres and rising, with moderate flooding.
The Burdekin River at Burdekin Dam may reach around 6.00 metres early Sunday. The river level is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (5.50 m) across the weekend.
Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding may occur along the Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Burdekin River at Dalbeg is currently at 17.38 metres and rising, above the moderate flood level (15.00 m).

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLY OCCURRING AT MURRAY FLATS
RENEWED MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT EURAMO FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Moderate flooding is possibly occurring at Murray Flats, where river levels are estimated to be falling.
Following an additional peak on Thursday, minor flooding is no longer occurring at Euramo. Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days, which may cause renewed or prolonged flooding depending on the location of the heaviest falls. This situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as necessary.
Tully River:
Renewed minor flooding is possible along the Tully River.
The Tully River at Euramo is currently at 5.90 metres and slowly falling, just below the minor flood level (6.00 metres).
Renewed rises to the minor flood level (6.00 metres) are possible along the Tully River at Euramo from Saturday afternoon and into Sunday with forecast rainfall.
Murray River:
Moderate flooding is possibly occurring along the Murray River.
No recent observations are available for the Murray River at Murray Flats. However, based on upstream gauges, it is possible that the river level is above the moderate flood level (7.50 metres).
The Murray River at Murray Flats may remain above the moderate flood level (7.50 m) for the remainder of Saturday into Sunday.

Flooding in North Queensland catchments during December 2023 damaged high priority river gauges that support the Bureau of Meteorology to provide high accuracy flood forecasts. While river gauges are being repaired, the Bureau will continue to issue flood watches and warnings for these catchments using the best available data.
