Major Flood Warning For The Connors-Isaac Rivers And Moderate Flood Warning For The Mackenzie River

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT YATTON OVERNIGHT MONDAY INTO TUESDAY SIMILAR TO THE 2013 EX-TC OSWALD FLOOD
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT TARTRUS OVERNIGHT TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY
Moderate to heavy rainfall totals has been observed over parts of the Fitzroy River Catchment since early Sunday morning. This has resulted in rapid river and creek level rises along the upper tributaries of the Connors and Isaac Rivers catchment.
Minor to major flooding is expected to develop along the Isaac River at Yatton during Monday and into Tuesday. In upstream tributaries across the Connors-Isaac River catchment, river levels and responses similar to 2013 Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald flood levels have been observed. No 2013 peak data is available at Yatton, but a similar major peak is expected. As floodwaters continue to flow downstream, moderate flooding may develop along the Mackenzie River at Tartrus overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. At Rockhampton, below minor peak from local run-off is likely during Tuesday. Renewed rises to higher levels are possible later this week as floodwaters arrive from upstream.
This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for the Fitzroy River catchment.

Connors and Isaac Rivers:
Major flooding is possible along the Connors and Isaac Rivers.
The Isaac River at Yatton is currently at 4.70 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Isaac River at Yatton is expected to exceed the minor flood level (7.50 m) Monday morning and the moderate flood level (9.50 m) Monday afternoon. The river may exceed the major flood level (16.50 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday with a peak just above the major flood level possible during Tuesday.

Mackenzie River:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Mackenzie River
The Mackenzie River at Tartrus is currently at 6.29 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Mackenzie River at Tartrus is likely to exceed the minor flood level (11.00 m) Tuesday afternoon. The river may exceed the moderate flood level (13.00 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Further rises are likely as upstream flows arrive.

Fitzroy River:
Elevated river levels are likely along the Fitzroy River.
The Fitzroy River at Rockhampton is likely to peak near 5.00 m from local run-off during Tuesday with the high tides, below the minor flood level (7.00 m). Renewed rises to higher levels are possible later this week as upstream floodwaters arrive.

Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji is currently located over the northern Central Highlands and Coalfields district, weakening as it continues slowly tracking northwesterly over land. The system is bringing moist onshore flow to its south, continuing to support the risk of heavy to locally intense rainfall today.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West and Capricornia
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely along coastal and adjacent inland parts between Mackay and Rockhampton today. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 80 to 150 mm are likely. 24-hourly totals between 150 to 250 mm are likely, with isolated falls in excess of 340 mm possible. Further inland, HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely today, with six-hourly rainfall totals between 70 and 120 mm.
Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING remains possible about coastal and elevated inland areas between Mackay and Rockhampton this morning, with isolated six-hourly falls in excess of 250 mm possible. Locally INTENSE RAINFALL may develop over parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields district later this morning, with six-hourly falls in excess of 150 mm possible.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued if intense rainfall is detected.
Underlying wet soils will make trees easier to fall about the northeast tropical coast. Landslips could also occur about steep and hilly terrain.

FLOODING EASED ALONG THE PIONEER RIVER
The risk of heavy rainfall has eased for the Pioneer River catchment as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji has moved southward. Flooding has eased along the Pioneer River at Mirani and Mackay.
Forecast showers and thunderstorms over the next few days are not expected to significantly affect river levels.

Flooding has eased along the Pioneer River.

No observations are currently available for the Pioneer River at Mirani, however, based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is expected to be below the minor flood level (6.00 m) and falling.

MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING AT BOWEN PUMP STATION
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Don and Proserpine River catchments since Saturday afternoon, resulting in river and creek level rises. Moderate flooding is occurring at Bowen Pump Station. Further rainfall is forecast to continue across the Don River catchment for the remainder of Sunday as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji moves inland. This may cause further river level rises across the catchment.
The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for the Don River catchment.

Don River:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Don River. Minor flooding is occurring at Ida Creek. Moderate flooding is occurring at Mt Dangar and Reeves.
The Don River at Bowen Pump Station is currently at 4.30 m and steady, above the moderate flood level (4.00 m).
The Don River at Bowen Pump Station is likely to reach near 4.50 metres Sunday evening, with moderate flooding.

Proserpine River:
River levels are elevated in the Proserpine River catchment.

Heavy to locally intense rainfall is forecast to develop across parts of the Burdekin River catchment from overnight Friday. The timing and the location of the heaviest falls will depend on the development and track of the tropical low. This rainfall is likely to result in rapid river and creek level rises. Minor flooding is possible for Clare and Inkerman Bridge (Burdekin Bridge) from overnight Saturday, and possible at Dalbeg and Sellheim (Macrossan Bridge) from Sunday morning. Minor flooding is possible at Burdekin Dam from Monday morning.
This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required.
