Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Peninsula, Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall developing about the northern inland this afternoon and evening.

Weather Situation
Tropical Low 29U crossed the coast near Innisfail earlier this afternoon. The monsoon trough extends inland from this low, and will become the focus of heavy rainfall for the remainder of today and the overnight period about the northern interior. The monsoon trough is expected to weaken on Saturday morning and with it decrease the risk of widespread heavy rainfall.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Peninsula, Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast to develop over parts of the northern inland this evening. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 70 and 100 mm are likely, with isolated totals up to 130 mm possible.
A slight risk of locally heavy rainfall still persists for coastal parts of northeast and central Queensland this evening and into Saturday morning, however. If heavy rainfall is expected to develop here, then a Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued for the affected areas.
Heavy rainfall is expected to ease about the warning area during Saturday morning.

Locations which may be affected include Georgetown, Croydon, Forsayth, Mount Garnet, Chillagoe and Einasleigh.
Significant rainfall observations to 4:30 pm:
42 mm at Wooroora in the 30 minutes to 3:09 pm.
39 mm at Ravenshoe in the 30 minutes to 2:44 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Friday.

Moderate Flood Warning For The Daintree River And Flood Warning For The Mossman And Bloomfield Rivers

MODERATE FLOODING EASING AT DAINTREE VILLAGE
ELEVATED RIVER LEVELS EASING ALONG THE MOSSMAN AND BLOOMFIELD RIVERS
Heavy to intense rainfall since Thursday afternoon has caused rapid river level rises across the Daintree, Mossman, and Bloomfield River catchments. Moderate flooding is now easing at Daintree Village after peaking just below the major flood level early Friday morning. Elevated river levels are now generally easing along the Bloomfield and Mossman rivers.
Showers are forecast for the remainder of Friday and into Saturday, which may lead to renewed river level rises. This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of the Peninsula, Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts. A Flood Watch is current for most of Queensland.

Daintree River:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Daintree River at Daintree Village, and minor flooding is occurring at Bairds. Elevated river levels are generally easing along the Bloomfield River at China Camp.
The Daintree River at Daintree Village is currently at 6.65 m and falling, with moderate flooding.
The Daintree River at Daintree Village may fall below the moderate flood level (6.00 m) late Friday afternoon. The river may fall below the minor flood level (4.00 m) overnight Friday into Saturday.

Mossman River:
Elevated river levels are generally easing along the Mossman River.

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.

Final Flood Warning For The Mulgrave And Russell Rivers

FLOODING NO LONGER EXPECTED AT PEETS BRIDGE AND GORDONVALE
Moderate to heavy rainfall recorded since Thursday afternoon has resulted in river level rises across the Mulgrave and Russell River catchment. River levels peaked below the minor flood level at Peets Bridge and Gordonvale Friday morning, and flooding is no longer expected.
Further showers and storms are forecast for the remainder of Friday and into Saturday. Renewed river level rises are possible. The situation is being monitored and warnings will restart if required.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for parts of the Peninsula and North Tropical Coast and Tablelands Forecast Districts. A Flood Watch is current for North Tropical Coast and parts of Cape York Peninsula, Central Coast, Capricornia and Carpentaria catchments.

Mulgrave River:
Flooding is no longer expected along the Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge and Gordonvale. Minor flooding is easing at The Fisheries.
The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge peaked at around 4.82 m on Friday morning, below the minor flood level. The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge is currently at 4.34 m and falling, below the minor flood level.
The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge is expected to remain below the minor flood level (5.00 m). Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale is currently at 10.70 m and steady, and around a peak below the minor flood level.
The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale is expected to remain below the minor flood level (12.00 m). Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
