MODERATE FLOODING LIKELY AT MIRANI, WITH FURTHER RISES TO THE MAJOR FLOOD LEVEL POSSIBLE SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Moderate rainfall has been observed across parts of the Pioneer River catchment since Saturday morning. Further heavy rainfall is forecast during Sunday as Tropical Cyclone Koji crosses the coast. This rainfall may result in rapid river and creek level rises.
With forecast rainfall, moderate flooding is likely at Mirani from Sunday morning, with further rises to the major flood level possible Sunday afternoon. Minor flooding may develop at Mackay with Sunday afternoon's high tide, and further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for the Pioneer River catchment. A Tropical Cyclone Advice is current across the catchment.
Pioneer River:
Moderate flooding is likely along the Pioneer River at Mirani. Further rises to the major flood level are possible with forecast rainfall.
No observations are currently available for the Pioneer River at Mirani, however, based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is expected to be below the minor flood level (6.00 m) and rising.
The Pioneer River at Mirani is likely to exceed the minor flood level (6.00 m) and moderate flood level (8.00 m) during Sunday morning. The river may exceed the major flood level (9.00 m) Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneer River at Mackay is currently at 4.60 m (1.66 m AHD) and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Pioneer River at Mackay may exceed the minor flood level (6.30 m) around Sunday afternoon's high tide. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BOWEN PUMP STATION FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Heavy to locally intense rainfall is forecast to continue developing across the Don River catchment during Sunday as Tropical Cyclone Koji crosses the coast. The timing and the location of the heaviest falls will depend on the development and track of the system. This rainfall is likely to result in rapid river and creek level rises across the catchment.
With forecast rainfall, minor flooding is possible at Bowen Pump Station from Sunday morning, and moderate flooding is possible from Sunday afternoon. Further river level rises are possible with forecast rainfall. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for the Don River catchment. A Tropical Cyclone Advice is current across the catchment. A Flood Watch is current for adjacent catchments.
Don River:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Don River.
The Don River at Bowen Pump Station is currently at 1.25 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Don River at Bowen Pump Station may exceed the minor flood level (2.50 m) Sunday morning. The river level may exceed the moderate flood level (4.00 m) Sunday afternoon. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Proserpine River:
River level rises are occurring in the Proserpine River catchment.

TROPICAL CYCLONE KOJI IS APPROACHING THE NORTHEAST TROPICAL COAST, BRINGING HEAVY TO LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL AND DAMAGING WINDS TODAY.
Weather Situation
Tropical Cyclone Koji (12U) is currently a Category 1 tropical cyclone and is continuing to move south towards the northeast Queensland coast. Koji is forecast to cross the coast as a Category 1 tropical cyclone later this morning south of Ayr.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Capricornia
For COASTAL AREAS: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with wind gusts around 100 km/h are expected to continue about exposed coastal parts between Townsville and Mackay this morning.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is developing along coastal parts between Townsville and St Lawrence this morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 80 to 150 mm are likely. 24-hourly totals between 150 to 250 mm are likely, with isolated falls in excess of 340 mm possible. Further inland, HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast to develop later this morning, with six-hourly rainfall totals between 70 and 150 mm possible.
Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is possible about coastal areas between Townsville and Proserpine this morning before extending to Mackay later today, with isolated six-hourly falls in excess of 230 mm possible.
Conditions to persist today over southern parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and Central Coast and Whitsundays, before possibly easing during Monday.

Underlying wet soils will make trees easier to fall about the northeast tropical coast. Landslips could also occur about steep and hilly terrain.

Headline:
Tropical Cyclone Koji to cross the coast between Ayr and Bowen this morning. Warning for Townsville is cancelled.
Areas Affected:
Warning zone: Ayr to Mackay, including Whitsunday Islands, Bowen and Proserpine.
Watch zone: None.
Cancelled zone: Townsville.
Details of Tropical Cyclone Koji 12U at 4:00 am AEST:
Intensity: Category 1, sustained winds near the centre of 85 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 120 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 55 kilometres of 19.0 degrees South 147.9 degrees East, estimated to be 120 kilometres east northeast of Townsville and 120 kilometres north northwest of Bowen.
Movement: south at 18 kilometres per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Koji (12U), category 1, lies east northeast of Townsville and moving south and will cross the coast between Ayr and Bowen in the next 3-5 hours. Strongest winds are occurring over Whitsunday Islands. After crossing it will weaken rapidly before tracking westwards. Heavy rain may persist through the region through Sunday and into Monday.
Hazards:
GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS up to 120 km/h currently being observed through the Whitsunday Islands.
GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h may briefly extend to coastal areas between Ayr and Mackay and to adjacent inland areas during this morning as the system crosses the coast.
Gales are expected to ease rapidly once Koji crosses the coast and moves inland during Sunday.
HEAVY RAINFALL, which may lead to FLASH FLOODING, is forecast from Ingham to Proserpine. Locally INTENSE RAINFALL, which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING, is possible between Townsville and Proserpine, extending south to Mackay later today.
Tides are likely to be higher than normal between Cardwell and Mackay today but should not exceed the highest tide of the year.
A Severe Weather Warning is also current for heavy to locally intense rainfall and damaging winds about the northeast and central Queensland coasts. Flood Watches and Warnings are also current.

Heavy to locally intense rainfall is forecast to develop across parts of the Burdekin River catchment from overnight Friday. The timing and the location of the heaviest falls will depend on the development and track of the tropical low. This rainfall is likely to result in rapid river and creek level rises. Minor flooding is possible for Clare and Inkerman Bridge (Burdekin Bridge) from overnight Saturday, and possible at Dalbeg and Sellheim (Macrossan Bridge) from Sunday morning. Minor flooding is possible along the Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam, with forecast rainfall.
The Burdekin River at Sellheim (Macrossan Bridge) is currently at 3.80 m and falling, below the minor flood level.
The Burdekin River at Sellheim (Macrossan Bridge) may reach around the minor flood level (12.00 m) Sunday morning, with forecast rainfall.
The Burdekin Dam is currently at 1.86 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Burdekin Dam may reach around the minor flood level (3.00 m) Monday morning, with forecast rainfall.
Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam:
Minor flooding is possible along the Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls, with forecast rainfall.
The Burdekin River at Dalbeg is currently at 6.88 m and falling, below the minor flood level.
The Burdekin River at Dalbeg may exceed the minor flood level (10.00 m) Sunday morning. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
The Burdekin River at Clare is currently at 6.70 m and falling, below the minor flood level.
The Burdekin River at Clare may exceed the minor flood level (9.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
The Burdekin River at Inkerman Bridge (Burdekin Bridge) is currently at 5.25 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Burdekin River at Inkerman Bridge (Burdekin Bridge) may exceed the minor flood level (7.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
