Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for Damaging Winds, Large Hailstones And Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Somerset, Western Downs, South Burnett, Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley Council Areas.

Severe thunderstorms west of Toowoomba moving to the northeast

DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Somerset, Western Downs, South Burnett, Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:45 am, severe thunderstorms likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Pittsworth and the area southwest of Dalby. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Dalby, the area southwest of Toowoomba and the area northwest of Toowoomba by 4:15 am and Toowoomba, Crows Nest and Mt Mowbullan by 4:45 am.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Southern Downs

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 4:50 am.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Severe thunderstorms continuing through southeast and central parts of the state this evening.

Weather Situation
Slow moving thunderstorms developing in a moist and unstable environment to the east of a trough this afternoon through parts of the southeast.
DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Toowoomba, Dalby, Kingaroy, Gatton, Nanango and Oakey.
100 km/h wind gust was recorded at Goondiwindi at 1:07 am.
