for Damaging Winds
for parts of Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast and Wide Bay and Burnett Forecast Districts.
Issued at 12:02 pm Monday, 2 February 2026.
Vigorous southeasterly change to bring damaging winds to southeastern islands and ranges.
Weather Situation
A trough and vigorous southeasterly change is expected to move through southeastern Queensland this afternoon and evening, bringing with it damaging winds about exposed coastal locations and elevated terrain.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 90 km/h are possible about Moreton and Stradbroke Islands from mid-afternoon, extending to the Bunya Mountains, Main Range and Border Ranges this evening. Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds about the coast during the evening, and the remainder of the warning area early Tuesday morning.
Severe thunderstorms are also possible about parts of inland southeast Queensland this afternoon and evening - a separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning may be issued if they develop.
Locations which may be affected include the Bunya Mountains, Border Ranges, Main Range and eastern Stradbroke and Moreton Islands.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Monday.
