Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Damaging Winds
for parts of Maranoa and Warrego Forecast District.

Damaging wind gusts expected associated with line of thunderstorms over the southern Warrego.
Weather Situation
A hot and unstable airmass east of a surface trough over southwestern Queensland will support a line of severe thunderstorms moving northeastwards into southern Queensland from northwest NSW in the next few hours.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Maranoa and Warrego
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Cunnamulla, Hungerford, Eulo and Barringun.
A 100 km/h wind gust was recorded at Burke Airport at 4:57 pm EST
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
The next warning is due to be issued by 8:20 pm.

The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe with damaging winds and large hail in the SE in the morning and afternoon. Winds E/NE 20 to 30 km/h tending NW/SW 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day then tending NE/SE in the late afternoon. Overnight temperatures falling to between 19 and 22 with daytime temperatures reaching 33 to 39.
