Major Flood Warning For The Lower Flinders River And Moderate Flood Warning For The Upper Flinders River

MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING AT RICHMOND TUESDAY AFTERNOON, MAY REACH AROUND 7.30 M TUESDAY EVENING
MAJOR FLOODING EXPECTED TO CONTINUE AT WALKERS BEND
Rapid river level rises are occurring along the upper Flinders River at Richmond following moderate to heavy rainfall Monday into Tuesday in upstream catchments. A flood peak was observed along Porcupine Creek at Mt Emu Plains Monday night and along the Dutton River at Villa Dale early Tuesday morning. Moderate flooding is expected to be occurring at Richmond, and a moderate flood peak may occur Tuesday evening.
Further downstream, renewed river level rises are occurring upstream of Walkers Bend along the Saxby River at Wondoola. Along the lower Flinders River at Walkers Bend, major flooding is expected to continue falling slowly following a major flood peak earlier this month, however, renewed river level rises are likely over the next few days as these upstream flows arrive. River levels are not expected to exceed levels observed earlier this month.
Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days. This may result in renewed river level rises. The situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Western Cape York Peninsula, Gulf of Carpentaria, and North East Coastal Rivers.

Flinders River to Richmond:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the upper Flinders River at Richmond.
No observations are currently available for the Flinders River at Richmond Post Office. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level may be above the moderate level (6.00 m) and rising.
The Flinders River at Richmond Post Office may reach around 7.30 m Tuesday evening, with moderate flooding. Higher levels may be possible. The situation is being monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Flinders River downstream of Richmond:
Major flooding is occurring along the lower Flinders River at Walkers Bend.
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is currently at 8.54 m and steady, with major flooding.
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is expected to remain above the major flood level (8.00 m) for the next few days. Renewed rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT CAMOOLA PARK, LONGREACH, STONEHENGE AND JUNDAH
RENEWED MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT RETREAT FROM WEDNESDAY
Along the Thomson River, the main flood peak has passed the Jundah area, where minor flooding is easing. The peak is now entering the Cooper Creek and approaching Windorah, where moderate flooding is expected to be occurring and likely to continue for the next few days.
Further upstream along the Thomson River, a second flood peak has been observed at Longreach, where renewed minor flooding is easing. As these flows move downstream, renewed rises are possible along the Thomson River downstream of Longreach from mid-week.
The main flood peak along the Barcoo River is around Glenlock. As this peak moves downstream, minor flooding may occur at Retreat from Wednesday.
Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.

Thomson River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Thomson River at Camoola Park, Longreach, Bogewong, Stonehenge, and Jundah. Renewed rises downstream of Longreach are possible.
The Thomson River at Camoola Park was at 2.7 m around 9:00 am Tuesday and falling, with minor flooding.
The Thomson River at Camoola Park is likely to remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) for the next few days.

The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 3.56 m and falling slowly with minor flooding.
The Thomson River at Longreach is likely to remain above the minor flood level (3.30 m) for the next few days.

The Thomson River at Stonehenge is currently at 2.00 m and steady, with minor flooding.
The Thomson River at Stonehenge is likely to remain around the minor flood level (2.00 m) for the remainder of Tuesday into Wednesday. Renewed rises are likely as upstream flows arrive.

The Thomson River at Jundah was at 3.11 m around 6:00 am Tuesday and falling, with minor flooding.
The Thomson River at Jundah is likely to remain above the minor flood level (2.50 m) for the next few days.

Barcoo River downstream of Isisford:
Renewed minor flooding is possible at Retreat from Wednesday.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 0.85 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Barcoo River at Retreat may reach around the minor flood level (2.14 m) during Wednesday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

Cooper Creek:
Moderate flooding is expected to be occurring along Cooper Creek.
No observations are currently available for the Cooper Creek at Windorah. However, based on upstream gauges it is estimated that the creek level is around the moderate flood level (4.57 m) and rising.
The Cooper Creek at Windorah is expected to remain above the moderate flood level for the next few days. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

Minor Flood Warning For The Diamantina River

MINOR FLOODING LIKELY AT BIRDSVILLE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS
River levels remain elevated along the Diamantina River, where the main flood peak is downstream of Monkira and approaching Birdsville. Minor flooding is likely to develop at Birdsville in the next few days.
River levels at Diamantina Lakes remain above the moderate flood level and the causeway.

Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
The Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes is currently at 4.24 m and steady, above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) and the level of the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road Causeway (2.10 m).
Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
River level rises are occurring along the lower Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes. Minor flooding is continuing at Monkira.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station was at 1.75 m and steady at 10:00 am Sunday, below the minor flood level (4.00 m).
The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station is likely to exceed the minor flood level in the next few days.

FLOODING NO LONGER OCCURRING AT YAAMBA
River levels at Yaamba on the Fitzroy River are expected to remain below the minor flood level and continue falling.
Showers and thunderstorms remain possible over the next few days, which may cause small renewed river level rises in parts of the catchment, but are not expected to significantly impact current river levels along the Fitzroy River.

Fitzroy River:
Flooding is no longer occurring along the Fitzroy River.
No observations are currently available for the Fitzroy River at Yaamba. Based on the downstream gauge at South Yaamba, the river level is expected to be below the minor flood level and falling.
The Fitzroy River at Yaamba is expected to remain below the minor flood level (9.00 m).

The Fitzroy River at Rockhampton is expected to remain below the minor flood level (7.00 m).
