Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for Damaging Winds, Large Hailstones And Heavy Rainfall
for parts of Southern Downs Council Area.
Issued at 6:54 pm Sunday, 1 February 2026.
Severe thunderstorms continue near Stanthorpe, easing near Warwick.
DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Southern Downs
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:50 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near the NSW border. This thunderstorm is moving towards the north. It is forecast to affect Stanthorpe by 7:20 pm and Applethorpe, Dalveen and the area between Stanthorpe and Warwick by 7:50 pm.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district.
The next warning is due to be issued by 7:55 pm.

The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe with damaging winds and heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding inland. Light winds becoming SE 20 to 30 km/h in the morning then increasing to 30 to 45 km/h in the middle of the day. Overnight temperatures falling to the low 20s with daytime temperatures reaching around 30.
