Minor Flood Warning For The Herbert River
Issued at 01:38 PM AEST on Sunday 22 March 2026
Flood Warning Number: 5

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT GLENEAGLE AND ABERGOWRIE BRIDGE
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Herbert River catchment during Friday and Saturday, resulting in elevated river levels across the catchment. Minor flooding is occurring at Gleneagle, and renewed minor flooding is occurring at Abergowrie Bridge. Minor flooding is not expected to extend to Ingham and Gairloch.
Isolated showers are forecast over the catchment during the remainder of Sunday and into Monday. The situation is being monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for the Cape York Peninsula and parts of the North Tropical Coast.

Herbert River to Nash's Crossing:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Herbert River to Nash's Crossing.
No observations are currently available for the Herbert River at Gleneagle Homestead. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the Herbert River at Gleneagle Homestead is expected to be above the minor flood level (4.50 m) and falling.
The Herbert River at Gleneagle Homestead is likely to remain above the minor flood level (4.50 m) for the next few days. Renewed rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing:
Minor flooding is occurring downstream of Nash's Crossing.
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is currently at 6.22 m and rising, with minor flooding.
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is likely to remain above the minor flood level (6.00 m) Sunday afternoon.

Final Flood Warning For The Suttor River

NO FURTHER FLOODING EXPECTED ALONG SUTTOR RIVER AT ST ANNS
River levels fell below the minor flood level along the Suttor River at St Anns during Thursday afternoon following a minor flood peak earlier in the day.
No significant rainfall is forecast for the catchment over the next few days.

Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam:
No further flooding is expected along the Suttor River at St Anns.
The Suttor River at St Anns peaked at 4.00 m around 09:00 am Thursday, with minor flooding. The river is currently at 3.92 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Suttor River at St Anns is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m).
