Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for King Island, Western, North East, Central Plateau and parts of Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, Central North, North West Coast and Midlands Forecast Districts.

Damaging winds persisting in the wake of a vigorous cold front crossing Tasmania.
Weather Situation
A vigorous frontal system moved across Tasmania resulting in widespread damaging winds, particularly with showers and thunderstorms. The risk of damaging winds remains about northeastern, central and southwestern Tasmania, which will gradually ease into early Saturday.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
King Island, Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are possible this evening. For elevated and exposed areas, DAMAGING WINDS may average 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts around 120 km/h.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds early Saturday morning, but will remain gusty.
Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Strahan, Currie, Bicheno, Bridport, Fingal, Strathgordon, Zeehan, Tarraleah, Scamander, Rosebery and Lake St Clair.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Furneaux Islands district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEDT Friday.
