for Damaging Winds

for King Island, Western, North East, Central Plateau and parts of Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, Central North, North West Coast and Midlands Forecast Districts.

Damaging winds persisting in the wake of a vigorous cold front crossing Tasmania.

Weather Situation
A vigorous frontal system moved across Tasmania resulting in widespread damaging winds, particularly with showers and thunderstorms. The risk of damaging winds remains about northeastern, central and southwestern Tasmania, which will gradually ease into early Saturday.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
King Island, Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are possible this evening. For elevated and exposed areas, DAMAGING WINDS may average 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts around 120 km/h.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds early Saturday morning, but will remain gusty.
Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Strahan, Currie, Bicheno, Bridport, Fingal, Strathgordon, Zeehan, Tarraleah, Scamander, Rosebery and Lake St Clair.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Furneaux Islands district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
North West Coast, Central North, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and westerly winds are expected during Friday and Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include the Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts and parts of the North West Coast, Central North and East Coast forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

Minor Flood Warning For The North Esk River

MINOR FLOODING LIKELY AT CORRA LINN FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Rainfall was recorded in the North Esk River catchment during Thursday and Friday morning, with further rainfall forecast for the remainder of Friday, with areas of locally heavy falls possible. This is likely to result in river level rises and minor flooding at Corra Linn from Friday afternoon.

Lower North Esk River around Corra Linn:
Minor flooding is likely along the Lower North Esk River.
The North Esk River at Corra Linn is currently at 2.43 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The North Esk River at Corra Linn is likely to exceed the minor flood level (2.70 m) from Friday afternoon. The river may reach around 2.80 m overnight Friday, with minor flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
