Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for Lower West, South West, South Coastal, Great Southern and parts of Central West, South East Coastal, Central Wheat Belt and Goldfields districts.

Damaging winds will continue as a strong cold front moves over the southwest of the state.

Weather Situation
A powerful cold front is moving over the southwest of the state throughout the day, bringing a widespread damaging wind risk to parts of the South West Land Division. The front will begin to weaken during the early evening as it continues to move east, eventually moving into the Bight by early Monday morning.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Goldfields, Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt
Widespread west to northwesterly DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with gusts of around 100 km/h, which may cause damage to homes and property, are likely southwest of Lancelin to Albany, including the Perth area.
As the front moves east during the early afternoon, strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 100 km/h will extend inland to the Great Southern, southern Central Wheat Belt and remaining southern coastal districts, particularly in showers and thunderstorms.
During the early evening winds will tend southwesterly and begin to ease over western and inland districts, but DAMAGING WIND GUSTS are likely to continue about the south coast until around midnight.
People in the southwest of WA experience a front as windy as this about 5 times per year.

Locations which may be affected include Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, Esperance, Katanning, Mandurah, Manjimup, Margaret River, Merredin, Mount Barker, Narrogin, Northam and Perth.
98 km/h wind gust was recorded at Busselton Jetty at 9:46 am.
102 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cape Leeuwin at 9:22 am.
93 km/h wind gust was recorded at Swanbourne at 9:13 am.
95 km/h wind gust was recorded at Rottnest Island Airport at 8:04 am.
91 km/h wind gust was recorded at Ocean Reef at 7:12 am.
96 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cape Naturaliste at 6:55 am.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

for DAMAGING SURF

for parts of Central West, Lower West and South West districts.

Damaging Surf conditions developing Sunday afternoon.

Weather Situation
A strong cold front will move across southwest WA during Sunday, causing strong to gale force winds and large seas.
DAMAGING SURF for the following areas:
Central West, Lower West and South West
DAMAGING SURF CONDITIONS could cause SIGNIFICANT BEACH EROSION between Geraldton and Bunbury, including Perth Local Waters from Sunday afternoon. Waves are expected to reduce below warning thresholds during Monday afternoon.
A separate Severe Weather Warning is current for DAMAGING WINDS. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/warnings/ for more information.
Locations which may be affected include Bunbury, Geraldton, Mandurah, Perth, Jurien Bay and Lancelin.


The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises:
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Keep away from coastal areas including beaches, tidal rivers, creeks, cliff areas and sand dunes.
* Beach closures may be in place. Follow the advice of local authorities.
* Keep away from flooded drains.
* Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
* If you live in the risk area, be prepared to relocate to a safer place.
* Move furniture and other items up high to avoid water damage.
* Have an evacuation kit ready including medicines, important documents, pet supplies and clothing.
* In a life threatening situation call 000.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
