Headline:
Tropical Cyclone Hayley is weakening as it moves inland over the west Kimberley.

Areas Affected:
Warning zone: North of Derby to south of Kuri Bay.

Watch zone: None.

Cancelled zone: The Dampier Peninsula.

Details of Tropical Cyclone Hayley 08U at 11:00 pm AWST:
Intensity: Category 2, sustained winds near the centre of 100 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 140 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 20 kilometres of 16.8 degrees South 123.7 degrees East, estimated to be 55 kilometres north of Derby and 170 kilometres south southwest of Kuri Bay.
Movement: east southeast at 17 kilometres per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Hayley, category 2, is weakening as it moves inland over the west Kimberley, to the north of Derby.

Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Kimberley district.

Issued at 10:34 pm Tuesday, 30 December 2025.

Heavy rainfall possible from Wednesday morning in the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Hayley.

Weather Situation
At 8pm, Tropical Cyclone Hayley is situated over the Dampier Peninsula and moving eastwards. As Hayley weakens over land on Wednesday, it is expected to bring heavy rainfall to inland parts of the Kimberley through Wednesday and into Thursday morning.

Warnings for Tuesday 30 December

HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Kimberley
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible about the western parts of the warning area from Wednesday morning and is forecast to extend inland towards Mount Barnett throughout Wednesday and into Thursday morning. 6-hourly rainfall totals between 40 and 60mm are likely, with isolated falls of 110 mm possible.

People in the north of WA may experience this type of weather each year at this time, however, winds and rain may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous.
Locations which may be affected include Mount Barnett.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AWST Wednesday.
