Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging, Locally Destructive Winds And Heavy Rainfall

for South East Coastal, Great Southern, Central Wheat Belt and parts of Gascoyne, Goldfields, Central West, Lower West and South Coastal districts.

DAMAGING TO LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS AND HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE FOR PARTS OF SOUTH WEST LAND DIVISION TODAY.

Weather Situation
Tropical Cyclone Narelle is currently inland to the northeast of Kalbarri and will continue to maintain a track towards the south southeast today. The system is forecast to transition to a vigorous subtropical low later this morning as it moves more rapidly to the southeast, with the risk of damaging winds and heavy rainfall continuing as the system passes through southwestern districts before moving off the south coast on this evening.
DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gascoyne, Goldfields, Central West, Lower West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely over northern parts of the warning area this morning, with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 km/h likely to shift southwards over the remainder of the warning area during the afternoon and evening.
DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS in excess of 125 km/h are possible near the system in the northern part of the warning area this morning and may cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Gascoyne, Central West, Lower West and Central Wheat Belt districts this morning and afternoon. Six-hour rainfall totals between 30 and 50 mm are likely, with isolated totals of around 70 mm possible mainly in the north of the warning area.
Conditions are likely to ease below warning thresholds by early Sunday morning as the system moves offshore.
A Tropical Cyclone Advice remains in place for Tropical Cyclone Narelle. A Flood Watch is also current for the area. Refer to www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts for the latest information.
Locations which may be affected include Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Katanning, Merredin, Moora, Mount Magnet, Narrogin, Norseman and Northam.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AWST Saturday.

TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 102
Issued at 02:38 AM WST on Saturday 28 March 2026

Headline:
Tropical Cyclone Narelle is located inland to the northeast of Kalbarri and is weakening.

Areas Affected:
Warning zone: Inland areas between Gascoyne Junction to Dalwallinu.

Watch zone: None.

Cancelled zone: Carnarvon to Jurien Bay.

Details of Tropical Cyclone Narelle 34U at 2:00 am AWST:
Intensity: Category 2, sustained winds near the centre of 95 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 130 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 45 kilometres of 27.2 degrees South 115.2 degrees East, estimated to be 185 kilometres north northeast of Geraldton and 240 kilometres north northwest of Morawa.
Movement: south southeast at 34 kilometres per hour.
Narelle lies over the Gascoyne southeast of Denham and is weakening as it moves quickly south-southeast.
Narelle is expected to continue tracking quickly south-southeast over land while weakening further during today. Impacts will extend into the Central West, before spreading further inland and south across the South West Land Division. The strongest winds are expected to remain on the eastern side of the system.

Hazards:
DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS in excess of 125 km/h extend over inland areas from Murchison to Mullewa, and are expected to ease this morning.
GALES with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 110 km/h are occurring in inland areas between Gascoyne Junction and Morawa, extending south to Dalwallinu later this morning.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible over Gascoyne and Central West.
A Severe Weather Warning is also current for damaging to locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall across much of southwest WA east of Perth and northeast of Albany.

Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and strong westerly winds are expected during Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include the Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
