Headline:
Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley is forecast to bring severe impacts to the northwest Kimberley coast later today.
Areas Affected:
Warning zone: North of Broome to east of Cockatoo Island, including Dampier Peninsula and Derby.
Watch zone: Inland east of Derby to Kuri Bay.
Cancelled zone: None.
Details of Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley 08U at 2:00 am AWST:
Intensity: Category 4, sustained winds near the centre of 165 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 230 kilometres per hour.
Location: within 30 kilometres of 16.1 degrees South 120.3 degrees East, estimated to be 280 kilometres west of Cape Leveque and 290 kilometres northwest of Broome.
Movement: southeast at 10 kilometres per hour.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley, category 4, is northwest of the Kimberley coast. Hayley is forecast to move east southeast towards the coast, reaching the northern part of the Dampier Peninsula this evening.
Hayley is likely at its peak strength, and is forecast to start weakening today prior to landfall. However, it is still forecast at category 3 strength prior to landfall.

Very Destructive wind gusts exceeding 170 km/h possible in the W depending on movement and development of Severe Tropical Cyclone Hayley. Elsewhere winds NW/SW 15 to 25 km/h increasing to 25 to 35 km/h in the early afternoon then tending NW/NE 25 to 40 km/h in the evening. Daytime maximum temperatures 30 to 38.
