Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for Heavy Rainfall
for parts of Ipswich, Gympie, Logan, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Sunshine Coast, Southern Downs, Lockyer Valley and Noosa Council Areas.
Issued at 6:30 pm Wednesday, 31 December 2025.
Slow moving thunderstorms continue over parts of the southeast.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Ipswich, Gympie, Logan, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Southern Downs, Lockyer Valley, Sunshine Coast and Noosa
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:25 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Cunninghams Gap, Rosevale and Borumba Dam. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to northeast. They are forecast to affect Moogerah, Moogerah Dam and Aratula by 6:55 pm and Boonah, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert and the area south of Gympie by 7:25 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett, Southeast Coast and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 7:30 pm.
