Areas of heavy rainfall with slow-moving thunderstorms
Weather Situation
A very moist tropical airmass remains in place across much of the state. Surface troughs around the central west and highlands, extending east to the Wide Bay will combine with this warm and humid environment to produce scattered thunderstorm activity with heavy rainfall.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Central West
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Clermont, Hughenden, Carnarvon National Park, Elgin Downs, Alpha and Corfield.
HEAVY RAINFALL is still occurring in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs, and the far southern Central Highlands and Coalfields districts, but this rainfall is now covered by a separate SEVERE WEATHER WARNING. 83 mm was recorded at Waddy Brae in the 6 hours to 4:52 pm.
88 mm was recorded at Upper Amby Creek in the 3 hours to 7:00 pm.
67 mm was recorded at Barcaldine Weir in the 2 hours to 7:00 pm.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Darling Downs and Granite Belt,Maranoa and Warrego,Wide Bay and Burnett
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
The next warning is due to be issued by 12:25 am Saturday.
