Moderate Flood Warning For The Western River And Flood Warning For The Diamantina River

MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING AT WINTON
BELOW MINOR PEAK OBSERVED AT BIRDSVILLE WITH RENEWED RISES POSSIBLE FROM NEXT WEEK
Heavy rainfall has been observed across the eastern part of the Western River catchment during the weekend which has led to rapid river level rises along the upper reaches of the Western River and its tributaries. At Winton, moderate flooding is now easing slowly.
Along the Diamantina River, river levels are rising above the moderate flood level at Diamantina Lakes. A below minor flood peak is passing Birdsville. However, renewed river level rises are possible from next week as upstream flood waters arrive.
Showers and storms are possible over parts of the catchment for the next few days which may cause further river level rises in some areas. This warning will be updated as required.

Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
The Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes is currently at 4.13 m and rising, above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) and above the level of the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road Causeway (2.10 m).
Western River:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Western River at Winton.
The Western River at Winton is currently at 2.35 m and steady, with moderate flooding.
The Western River at Winton is expected to remain above the moderate flood level (2.00 m) for the remainder of Thursday and into Friday.

Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
Minor flooding is easing at Roseberth. Renewed rises are possible as the flood waters arrive from upstream.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station peaked near 3.75 m during Monday, below the minor flood level. The river is currently at 3.55 m and steady.
Renewed river level rises are possible from next week as the flood waters arrive from upstream.

Major Flood Warning For The Flinders River

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT RICHMOND POST OFFICE FROM OVERNIGHT THURSDAY
MINOR FLOODING LIKELY AT WALKERS BEND DURING THE WEEKEND WITH FURTHER RISES LIKELY INTO NEXT WEEK
Recent moderate rainfall over the upper Flinders catchment has caused river level rises in the upper Flinders River. Further showers and storms are forecast over the next few days, which may cause further river level rises across the catchment.
Near major flooding is estimated to be occurring along the Flinders River at Richmond Post Office, with further small rises to the major flood level possible from overnight Thursday. As these flows move downstream river level rises are likely along the Lower Flinders River, where minor flooding is likely at Walkers Bend during the weekend. Further rises are likely along the Lower Flinders River into next week, with forecasts to be refined as upstream peaks are observed.

Flinders River to Richmond:
Major flooding is possible along the Flinders River to Richmond.
No observations are currently available for the Flinders River at Richmond Post Office. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level is estimated to be just below the major flood level and rising slowly.
The Flinders River at Richmond Post Office may reach around the major flood level (8.00 m) from overnight Thursday into Friday.

Flinders River downstream of Richmond:
Elevated river levels and river level rises are occurring along the Flinders River downstream of Richmond. Minor flooding is likely at Walkers Bend.
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is currently at 3.04 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is likely to exceed the minor flood level (5.00 m) during the weekend. Further rises are likely as upstream flows arrive.

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT GLENGYLE
FLOODING NO LONGER EXPECTED AT MARION DOWNS
The flood peak along the Eyre Creek has passed through Glengyle, where minor flooding is occurring.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast in the catchment for the next few days, with isolated moderate to heavy rainfall possible, however this is not expected to have a significant impact on current river and creek levels.

Georgina River to Marion Downs:
River levels remain elevated along the Georgina River to Marion Downs; however, flooding is no longer expected at Marion Downs.
No recent observations are available for the Georgina River at Marion Downs, however, based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level at Marion Downs is expected to be below the minor flood level (3.00 m).
The Georgina River at Marion Downs is expected to remain below the minor flood level.

Eyre Creek:
Minor flooding is estimated to be occurring along the Eyre Creek around Glengyle. Minor flooding is estimated to be continuing along King Creek at Cluny.
The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is currently at 3.45 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is expected to remain below the minor flood level (3.50 m).

No current creek level observations are available for the Eyre Creek at Glengyle. The creek level is estimated to be above the minor flood level (2.00 m) and falling slowly.
The Eyre Creek at Glengyle is expected to remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) over the next few days.
