Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Western Australia TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Heatwave Warning Issued at 01:58 PM WST on Wednesday 21 January 2026 Valid for Wednesday 21 January 2026 to Thursday 22 January 2026 Warning for the following areas: Pilbara, Gascoyne and Central West Cancellation for the following areas: North Interior, Kimberley and Lower West Safety Advice: Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre. Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home. If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool. Maximum temperatures generally in the low to mid forties, reaching the high forties through parts of the Gascoyne and Pilbara. Overnight minimum temperatures in the low to mid twenties in the Central West and in the mid to high twenties through the Gascoyne and Pilbara. While severe heatwave conditions have eased across the Lower West, including parts of Perth, hot temperatures and low intensity heatwave conditions will persist until Thursday, with cooler conditions becoming established by Thursday evening. Severe to extreme heatwave conditions are expected to ease and contract to the South Interior over the coming days as milder temperatures extend across the southern half of WA from Friday. Locations likely to be impacted include Carnarvon, Denham, Geraldton, Kalbarri and Paraburdoo. The next heatwave warning will be issued by 2:00pm WST on Thursday 22 January 2026
