Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Canberra
for Heavy Rainfall
for parts of Canberra and Queanbeyan.

Earlier very dangerous thunderstorms have moved east of Canberra. Another line of severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall approaching Canberra from the southwest.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Canberra
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:00 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Tidbinbilla Tracking Station and Bendora Dam. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect Tuggeranong by 3:15 pm and Woden Valley, Weston Creek and Hume by 3:30 pm.
28.6 mm was recorded at Burra Creek in the 30 minutes to 2:04 pm.
28.6 mm was recorded at Tinderry (Queanbeyan River) in the 30 minutes to 1:30 pm.
23.4 mm was recorded at Jerangle in the 30 minutes to 1:02 pm.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory and parts of the Hunter, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Snowy Mountains, Metropolitan and Riverina districts.
Other warnings may be current.
The next warning is due to be issued by 3:35 pm.
